![]() ![]() I still want to use it interfaced with Ableton in the future, but the S8 now has me considering other options.įamous users of Traktor’s products include Zedd and Porter Robinson, who’s sets are ripe with a high amount of energy thanks to it’s incredible capability to mash up 2-4 songs at once. Today, I am still infatuated with it’s incredible ease of use, compact layout and truly wicked macro effects that make for destructive opportunities to flip between songs in a maniacal manner. Now I may be biased because I did not start out in this industry with the $6k or so necessary to have my own Pioneer setup, I opted to learn Traktor as my first controller. Traktor is going straight after the industry standard environment with this addition, further consolidating the far more expensive CDJ/DJM set up that has been a norm in EDM since the 80’s. These screens operate very much like the Pioneer CDJ’s that are the industry standard in nearly every club in the world, keeping the DJ’s focus off of their laptop and firmly on the mix. The most striking addition to the S8 are the two full color, high resolution screens where the jogwheels would typically go on the now mid-range S4. It boasts several of NI’s new technologies such as the touch-sensitive track pad that renders jogwheels obsolete as well as the color-changing launch pads that operate the remix decks. The shiny new S8 takes its place as the biggest, most powerful, and most expensive product Native Instruments has to offer, featuring a 4+2 channel mixer and a slew of pretty, colorful buttons that intrigue the inner child that lies in all electronic dance musicians. Traktor revealed the newest addition to their arsenal of DJ controllers that might just take the cake as the best professional option for the money. ![]()
